About Magic Words 🪄
Hi there! Are you struggling to set aside time for your writing? Sitting just to stare at a screen?
Magic Words is a subscription to short, spoken writing prompts.
Think of each recording as a 1-minute-long voice memo, from me to you. Use them as you sit down to write, or whenever you like.
One will arrive in your inbox (and your ear!) every Tuesday.
It is created and gently led by Alison Bowen, award-winning writer and author of Woo Woo Writing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this for “real” writers only?
A: I don’t know what a “real” writer is, but I know that everyone can write! One of the things I love most about the book “On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction" by William Zinsser, is it makes exactly this point — anyone can channel their inner writer. Maybe you’re an academic looking for inspiration, an office person hoping to write a novel at night or simply wanting to get some life thoughts down. Whoever you are, this is for you.
Q: Why just one minute?
A: I've found, while building this and asking writer communities what will serve them, that “I only have about one minute for anything new” is a popular response. My hope is that these feel easy to fold into your week. And if you’d like something longer, let me know! I’m always open to building.
Q: When will I get the weekly writing prompt?
A: Magic Words will arrive in your inbox every Tuesday.
Q: Do I need to listen to them in order?
A: Nope! Pop in and out as you’d like. Magic Words is designed to let you listen to any audio prompt, at any time. Each week, it will always be new.
Q: Is there a free option?
A: The introduction is free, so you can get an idea of what Magic Words is all about, and right now, new members get one month free. But as a working writer who owns my own business, subscriptions keep this going. Thanks for supporting my work!
Q: What do other listeners have to say?
